According to Mia (Anne Hathaway), the foot pop is key for any iconic kiss, but it didn't feel that way for Robert Schwartzman while filming: "The foot pop cues the lights going on in the garden, but they didn't rehearse it with the lights, so I was surprised; the magic was truly genuine for me."

Director Sharon Maguire always had snow in mind for this iconic kissing scene: "I knew snow would elevate it and give it that classic, It's a Wonderful Life feel. Having her in her underwear was a controversial late-comer decision. Renée said, 'If the undies are funny, I'll do it.'"

For director and writer Cameron Crowe, capturing the first kiss' enormity was important: "I thought it'd be great if we really explored every little stage of being close to somebody for the first time. Let's not be movie stars about it; let's be real people."

Josie Geller (Drew Barrymore) had been kissed before, she just hadn't been kissed and felt that thing. Director Raja Gosnell recalled just how...un-romantic filming was: "It was kind of a nightmare. Drew was dead sick and as a director, I'm thinking 'Okay, I've got a film called Never Been Kissed, if I f— this up, I never work again." In the end, Gosnell figured it out.
