The announcement of the 2022 Oscar nominees kicked awards season into high gear. Here are some of the biggest snubs and surprises.

Cooper credits director Paul Thomas Anderson with reigniting his love of acting, and we see why in his portrayal of producer Jon Peters. Unfortunately, passion wasn't enough to propel him to the Oscars.

The Best Picture nom shows surprising strength for a film on the bubble. The Japanese film first hinted at awards potential at Cannes, where it competed for the Palme d’Or and won Best Screenplay.

The parody track, “Just Look Up,” seemed like a sure bet for Ariana Grande to get her first Oscar nom. The Academy said thank you, next to the tune, despite nominating the film in other categories.
