The Gold and the Beautiful
They look so relaxed! But Claire and Jamie’s trip to Jamaica – which kicks off this Sunday on Outlander – is anything but a leisurely jaunt across the ocean. “This is not a Caribbean vacation for Jamie and Claire,” says executive producer Matthew B. Roberts. “There are no umbrella drinks going on. It is rough going for both of them.”
Ahead, see more shots from our exclusive photo shoot with stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, held earlier this year at Rustenberg Gardens in South Africa.
Returning through to the stones to Jamie hasn’t been the easiest journey for Claire. “Episode 6 was the fantasy,” Balfe tells EW of the much-anticipated reunion in the print shop. “She walks back into Jamie’s life, and they immediately click again. But the hard work in any relationship is getting beyond the fantasy.”
If you think their gilded costumes look familiar, you would be right: Jamie and Claire wore them in the Palace of Versailles while visiting Paris in season 2. Costume Designer Terry Dresbach tells EW it’s all about keeping with the times: it was a common practice back in the day to keep articles of clothing for decades and decades.
The couple attend a lavish ball in Jamaica to gather intel on the whereabouts of Young Ian (John Bell), Jamie’s nephew who was kidnapped at the end of episode 8. Where are you, boy?
This cover featuring Heughan and Balfe will be available exclusively at Barnes & Noble stores beginning Tuesday, Nov. 14, or you can purchase it online now.
