Nancy Drew (2019 TV series)

A supernatural spirit will be trying to kill Nancy and the rest of her crew in Nancy Drew season 2, but the redheaded detective is still making time for love.

EW has an exclusive first look at Nancy's (Kennedy McMann) new love interest Gil Bobbsey (Praneet Akilla) — one half of a new version of the iconic Bobbsey Twins — who makes his debut along with his twin sister, Amanda (Aadila Dosani), in Wednesday's season premiere, "The Search for the Midnight Wraith."

According to an official character description, Gil is "a charismatic wise-ass with street smarts from growing up poor on the wrong side of the tracks. Enterprising and irreverent, he does odd jobs and pulls off petty crimes with his sister to make ends meet. His first encounter with Nancy Drew is wryly contentious and full of mutual sparks, promising much more to come in their future."

The original Bobbsey Twins were two sets of fraternal twins — Nan and Bert, and Flossie and Freddie — in a long-running book series that first published in 1904. While The Bobbsey Twins characters never actually crossed over into Nancy Drew novels, the franchise was heavily influenced by the popularity of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys series, as The Bobbsey Twins began as adventure stories before shifting focus to detective tales instead.

Akilla is best known for recurring on Netflix's supernatural drama October Faction and also appeared in the season 7 premiere of Arrow.

Nancy Drew season 2 premieres Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on the CW.
