Keeping Up With the Kardashians: Then and now
It's been 13 years since the Kardashians took over television with their runaway hit reality series, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, on E!. Since the series debuted in October 2007, there have been weddings, divorces, births, selfies, glam squads galore, a scandal or two, and a whole lot of manufactured drama in between. Let's look back at each of the core members of the family, from where they started to where they are now. Do try to keep up.
Kim Kardashian West
Then: When the show began its run in 2007, Kim was the most famous member of the family, but mostly for a sex tape with singer Ray J and being Lindsay Lohan's personal stylist. (Take a moment to digest that news.)
Now: By her third marriage, it seemed like Kim had nailed matrimony. She was married to Kanye West for the past 7 years, before the couple announced their plans to divorce in early 2021. Kim and West have four children together. But don't worry, Kim still has time for fashion. Far from her early days picking out low-rise jeans for Lohan, Kim has graced the cover of some of the most prestigious fashion magazines, including Vogue, and has massive influence across social media. She has also launched a line of shape wear, a beauty line and even her own "Kimoji" emojis. More recently, she has become an avid advocate for prison reform and is studying via apprenticeship to become a lawyer. Kim has plans to take the bar exam in 2022.
Then: When the E! series launched, the youngest Kardashian sister ran the clothing boutique D-A-S-H with her two older sisters, Kim and Kourtney. In 2009, Khloé married basketball player Lamar Odom having only known him for a month. The couple eventually divorced in 2016.
Now: After a stint co-hosting The X Factor alongside Mario Lopez, Khloé went on to host her own show, Kocktails with Khloé, in 2016 and later starred in the fitness docu-series Revenge Body With Khloe Kardashian. In 2017, Khloé and Emma Grede launched a denim brand called Good American Denim which has since expanded into activewear and beyond. In 2018, she had her first child, a daughter, with basketball player Tristan Thompson. The couple split after two major cheating scandals (both Thompson's doing), but seemed to be rekindling their relationship by late 2020.
Then: When the series began, Kourtney, the eldest of the tribe, was the co-owner of the clothing boutique D-A-S-H alongside her two sisters and was dating Scott Disick. The couple have enjoyed an on-again-off-again relationship since and have three children together. The birth of the couple's first son, Mason, was filmed for the television show
Now: Kourtney and Scott have been officially broken up since July 2015 and each has been linked to other high-profile celebrities since. Kourtney runs her own lifestyle brand, Poosh and was the first family member to officially step back from the show, back in March 2020. In early 2021, Kourtney revealed she is dating Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.
Then: As the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner brood, Kylie was just 9 years old when the show premiered. In 2012, Kylie got her first taste of entrepreneurship when she and Kendall created a fashion line.
Now: In 2015, Kylie launched her own cosmetics line, Kylie Cosmetics. It made close to half a billion dollars in its first two years. Her own spin-off series, Life of Kylie premiered on E! in the summer of 2017. In 2018, she had her first child, daughter Stormi, with rapper Travis Scott. By 2020, she was a multimillionaire and had 196 million followers on Instagram.
Then: Kendall was just 11 years old when the show premiered and her role was originally a lot smaller than that of her older half-sisters, though her introduction to the world of fashion and modeling was documented as part of the series.
Now: After multiple appearances in ad campaigns and photoshoots, Kendall walked the runway during Fashion Week in New York, Milan, and Paris during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. She has since walked for Victoria's Secret and acts as a brand ambassador for Estée Lauder. In 2018, she was named the world's highest-paid model in the Forbes top-earning models list. But there's been a faux pas or two also: In 2017, she starred in a widely criticized Pepsi commercial that seemed to trivialize police brutality, as well as promoting the ill-fated and fraudulent Fyre Festival the same year.
When the series kicked off, Kris was the ultimate "momager" to Kim and ran her own production company, Jenner Communications. She was married to Caitlyn Jenner from 1991 until their divorce in 2015. The couple has two daughters together, Kendall and Kylie.
Now: Kris is now involved in the management of her other daughters' and her son's careers. She is also the author of an autobiography and cookbook and has hosted a talk show. Kris has been in a relationship with Corey Gamble since 2014.
Then: Caitlyn Jenner's role on the Kardashians mostly saw the former Olympian navigate the ups and downs of parenting five daughters and bickering with then-wife over the use of the garage.
Now: In 2015, Jenner came out as a transgender woman and has since completed gender confirmation surgery. Between 2016 and 2017, Jenner starred in the reality series I Am Cait and in April 2017, she released her memoir The Secrets of My Life. She is an advocate for the LGBTQ community.
Then: During the first few seasons of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Rob was a prominent part of the family dynamic and even competed on the 13th season of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, placing second. In 2012, he launched his sock line, Arthur George.
Now: Rob is the founder of the Arthur George sock company. He stepped back from the spotlight for a few years, dealing with weight gain and depression. In January 2016, he began dating model Blac Chyna and regained some of his former confidence. Their reality series Rob & Chyna debuted in September 2016 and they welcomed a daughter in November 2016. In July 2017, Rob took to Instagram to post explicit pictures of Chyna and accuse her of infidelity. They are no longer together.
Then: When we first met Scott, he was the playboy, hothead, drinks-too-much boyfriend of Kourtney. Scott matured somewhat after the birth of the couple's first son, Mason, though he continued to drink heavily which was often a point of contention for the couple.
Now: Over the years, Disick has tried his hand at many entrepreneurial ventures such as male tanning products, as well as often being hired to host numerous parties at nightclubs and casinos. More recently, he starred in E!'s luxury real estate series Flip It Like Disick. He and Kourtney successfully co-parent their three children together. Disick dated Sofia Richie for three years before going public with his relationship with model Amelia Grey Hamlin in early 2021.
Now: In 2015, Brody starred on E! call-in talk show Sex with Brody where he and a relationship therapist discuss a variety of topics related to sex. In 2018 he married Kaitlynn Carter and in 2019, the couple appeared together on The Hills: New Beginnings. They have since separated.
