Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis is a good sport in EW's cover portraits
Sudeikis was first cast as football coach-turned-English soccer team manager Ted Lasso in a commercial to promote NBC's screening of the Premier League. The character was originally planned to be more belligerent but the actor "wanted to play something sillier."

How did the Ted Lasso star come up with his character's moniker? "A name plus a noun is funny," he says.
Sudeikis' belief in the Apple TV+ show was not always matched by others. "We pitched it to at least four places and three said of them said it wasn't their cup of tea," says the actor.
Sudeikis, photographed here at the Ted Lasso studios in London, has won a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for his performance on the show. But Sudeikis is unimpressed by individual acting prizes. "It's only a reflection of who I get to work with," he says.
