The actor returns to the Great White Way this summer in a limited run.

After undergoing another adventure in Hawkins, Gaten Matarazzo will be waving through a window this summer.

The Stranger Things actor announced today that he's returning to Broadway this summer, playing the role of Jared Kleinman in the Tony-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen. Matarazzo's limited run will start July 19.

"Words could never express how truly honored I am to be a part of this company," said Matarazzo in a statement. "This show has taught me so much about myself and to be able to participate in any capacity, let alone on Broadway, makes me want to melt. I am ecstatic to be back on stage and eternally grateful for the opportunity."

In the show, Matarazzo's character is the best friend of Evan, a high school loner who writes a letter to himself that gets mistaken for a classmate's suicide note. While Matarazzo is best known to audiences and fans for playing Dustin — a.k.a. one fourth of the Hawkins gang in Stranger Things — Broadway has always been a home for the actor, who made his stage debut at age 9 in 2011's Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Aside from a one-night-only performance in 2013's Godspell, the last time he was seen on stage was during the 2014 revival of Les Misérables, where he played Gavroche.

Dear Evan Hansen originally opened in 2016, where it instantly became a smash hit, winning six Tonys and a Grammy Award. The show recently reopened in December 2020, after closing down for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A movie musical based on the show and starring original cast member Ben Platt premiered in 2021.
