The BBC has confirmed that Doctor Who will return in around ten months' time with a holiday season special episode. The TV event is titled "Revolution of the Daleks" and will find Jodie Whittaker's time-traveler facing off against the titular mechanical monstrosities. Whittaker's character previously battled a Dalek on a previous holiday season special, "Resolution," which was broadcast on Jan. 1, 2019. The current season of Doctor Who concludes on BBC America tonight.

“We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger!" Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall said in a statement, about the season finale, which aired in the U.K. earlier today. "Well, we did. But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended special around Christmas and New Year. (I don’t know when they’re going to put it on yet, otherwise we’d tell you!). There will be Daleks. There will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. You know. The usual. See you at the end of the year.”

Chibnall recently revealed to EW that he will oversee the next season of Doctor Who, his third as showrunner, which will probably premiere in 2021.

“It will be next year sometime, hopefully, unless my holiday goes on for a really long time, which is always tempting,” he says.
