Catherine Zeta-Jones lands role in season 2 of Prodigal Son
Fox's Prodigal Son is upping the ante in season 2 with the addition of Academy Award-winner Catherine Zeta-Jones in a lead role.
Zeta-Jones will portray Claremont psychiatric's resident MD, Dr. Vivian Capshaw with her debut set for the latter half of the season. Dr. Capshaw will boss around Michael Sheen's Dr. Martin Whitley, who has been assigned to infirmary duty – which includes cleaning bedpans and mopping floors. Though she thoroughly enjoys assigning "The Surgeon" with such tasks, she starts to see him in a new light when he proves his value when it comes to treating patients.
"An extraordinary talent, Catherine Zeta-Jones is the perfect foil for the brilliant Michael Sheen," said Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, FOX Entertainment. "I can't wait to see these two greats go head-to-head in a season that is bound to raise the bar set by an outstanding season one."
The series picks up after the events in the season 1 finale that saw Malcolm Bright's (Tom Payne) sister Ainsley (Halston Sage) kill Nicholas Endicott (Dermot Mulroney) by slashing his throat and stabbing him to death. Martin, of course, couldn't be prouder.
Prodigal Son's sophomore season will debut on a new night beginning Tuesday, January 12 at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST on Fox.
