GLOW star Betty Gilpin to play Ann Coulter in Impeachment: American Crime Story
Would you call this a GLOW-up or GLOW-down?
Betty Gilpin, the star of Netflix’s acclaimed wrestling drama, has joined the troupe of Impeachment: American Crime Story as the always-controversial conservative political pundit Ann Coulter, EW has learned.
With the next season of the FX anthology series focusing on the infamous Bill Clinton–Monica Lewinsky sex scandal, Coulter penned the 1998 book High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton, which addressed the Lewinsky situation.
Gilpin was just seen in theaters this month in The Grudge remake and she would’ve been seen in The Hunt prior to that, but the film was indefinitely tabled following backlash involving President Donald Trump.
The addition of Gilpin follows this week’s announcement that Billy Eichner will play reporter Matt Drudge, whose Drudge Report was the first to break the news of the scandal on Jan. 17 of that year. Booksmart‘s Beanie Feldstein stars as Lewkinsky, while Clive Owen plays Clinton, Sarah Paulson plays Lewinsky confidante Linda Tripp, and The Assassination of Gianni Versace‘s Annaleigh Ashford plays Paula Jones, who sued Clinton for sexual harassment.
Ryan Murphy executive produces the Impeachment season with Lewsinky herself, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, Alexis Martin Woodall, Paulson, and Richard Shepard. Shepard will also direct this season.
Impeachment isn’t expected to premiere until sometime later this year or early 2021.
Deadline was the first to report the news.
