EW's Best of Shows podcast: Critics say 'Yes, Sensei!' to Cobra Kai season 2
Here's a fun fact for the day: Peer pressure works. After spending a year banging the drum for YouTube Premium's Karate Kid sequel series — through glowing reviews and a spot on my 10 best shows of the year list — I finally got Darren Franich to watch Cobra Kai. And good news: He loved it! This week on EW's Best of Shows podcast, Darren and I geek out on the new season of Cobra Kai, which premieres Wednesday, and features the return of franchise bad guy John Kreese. And when I say "geek out," I mean it: Phrases like "the duality of man" and "metaphor for our divided nation" are uttered, belly laughs about William Zabka's transcendent performance as villain-turned-underdog Johnny Lawrence are had.
Also on the podcast this week: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power showrunner Noelle Stevenson on the challenges of making animation that appeals to adults and children — "I think that children are capable of handling weighty themes," she says — and her first TV love (which involves the Bible, anime, and a robot).
