Where are my dragons???
It’s the question Jonathan Van Ness and his special guests are asking on his beloved Game of Thrones recap series Gay of Thrones. And EW can exclusively reveal that Van Ness — who’s sharing the news in the video above — and his show are returning for their own final season alongside the conclusion of the HBO series.
The two-time Emmy nominated series will return to Funny or Die on April 16 with new episodes airing every Tuesday. It began with the third season of Game of Thrones and has aired alongside it every season since, earning Emmy nominations for Outstanding Short Form Variety series in 2016 and 2018.
The series was created by Funny or Die writer/producer Erin Gibson, who was inspired to launch the series after many sessions dissecting the HBO show with Van Ness, Queer Eye‘s styling grooming expert while he was styling her hair. “I am very excited to blow out this last season of Gay of Thrones with the panache and fierceness that only Jonathan can bring to the screen,” said Gibson in a statement.
Every episode will feature a different special guest getting their hair styled by Van Ness as they break down that week’s new episode of Game of Thrones. They’ll recap the final season of the series with the aid of clips interspersed throughout. Van Ness and Gibson watch the show together every Sunday to write their show on a speedy turnaround.
Some of Van Ness’ famous nicknames for main characters have included Baby Barack Obama, Solange, Dr. Evil, Brother D, Christina Aguilera, and the artist formerly known as blonde Cher. Past guests have included George R.R. Martin, Margaret Cho, Rachel Bloom, D’Arcy Carden, Timothy Simons, Bryan Safi and Brad Goreski, among others.
