On Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Rebecca (Rachel Bloom) has tried on a lot of personas (and men!) for size, but in Friday’s series finale, it’s time for her to finally make some concrete decisions about her future, both personally and romantically.
As Rebecca grapples with her future with three potential mates, as well as wider questions about what she wants from life, she turns to her classic mode of coping: a musical number. In this exclusive clip, Rebecca sings “Eleven O’Clock,” (yes, it’s her 11 o’clock number), revisiting past musical versions of herself to try to work out what she should do.
“This has been a show about someone who tries on different personas, and part of the reason she’s doing that is she’s slightly in flight from herself and figuring out who she is,” series co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna tells EW. This number sees Rebecca literally trying on those personas through the costumes associated with various musical numbers from the show’s four seasons.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is saying goodbye with a two-hour finale episode and a concert special featuring some of the show’s most beloved original songs. “Rebecca makes a big choice,” Brosh McKenna teases of the finale. “It’s a pretty first-person, interior episode.”
Star and co-creator Bloom adds, “We always knew what the final scene was and what the final lines were, which is why I couldn’t help but sob at the table read. The series is [about] being okay with who you are on the inside and bringing it out for the world to see.”
And if that sounds heavy, don’t worry: The concert special includes a sex-song medley.
