On Monday morning, the Arrow leading man, who plays Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, thanked his onscreen wife/partner-in-justice for everything she brought to the CW drama as tech-genius Felicity Smoak in a touching Instagram post.
“For me… August 3rd, 2012 is the most important day in the history of our show. It was the first day I worked with Emily. Her energy and the vibrancy she gave to Felicity Smoak is only surpassed by what she personally gave to me. She was a co-worker that became a best friend,” wrote Amell in the caption. “So on the first day of our last episode together, I’d like everyone to know how deeply I appreciate the past seven years. We wouldn’t be here without you. I love you. And I cannot wait to see what you do next.”
This past weekend, Rickards revealed she is leaving the long-running superhero drama at the end of its seventh and current season. After the news broke, executive producers Beth Schwartz and Greg Berlanti released the following statement addressing her departure:
“We’ve had the pleasure of working with Emily since season one and in those past seven years she has brought one of TV’s most beloved characters to life. And although we’re heartbroken to see both Emily and Felicity leave the show, we’re completely supportive of Emily and her future endeavors. She will always have a family at Arrow.”
As of right now, it’s unclear how the show will handle Rickards’ departure. The seventh season is currently juggling two timelines: A present-day one where Felicity is pregnant and developing her Archer security system while she and the rest of the team work with SCPD; and a future one where she just reunited with her daughter Mia (Kat McNamara) and son William (Ben Lewis).
