OkCupid launches Game of Thrones badge to match users based on their favorite TV shows
Winter may be coming, but fights over the remote are not.
If you’re single and love Game of Thrones, you’ll soon be able to find a romantic partner who shares that passion, thanks to OkCupid. The dating app is debuting a new badge that will be prominently displayed on user profiles if they’ve ever publicly responded “yes” to the question “Do you watch Game of Thrones?”
OkCupid makes wide use of compatibility algorithms based on user responses to a vast range of questions about everything from favorite TV shows to political ideologies to deepest values. For the first time ever, users can match based on their mutual love of a television show, just ahead of the premiere of the final season of HBO’s fantasy hit.
“We’re so excited to be the first dating app to match people on their favorite TV show — starting with Game of Thrones,” said Melissa Hobley, chief marketing officer at OkCupid, in a statement. “We’re all about matching on what matters — and what matters to millions of people around the world is what they’re watching.”
OkCupid is launching the initiative with Game of Thrones because the series has almost 2 million mentions in user profiles, more than any other show. The company is predicting 20 percent more likes and 15 percent more conversations for those who have the Game of Thrones badge.
Additionally, OkCupid has done some number crunching to determine compatibility on an even deeper level. For example, the majority of users want Jon Snow and Daenerys to claim the Iron Throne, with 83 percent of women and 73 percent of men choosing them to reign supreme. And couples who choose Khal Drogo and Daenerys as #relationshipgoals are less likely to argue than those that ship Jon Snow and Ygritte.
