'The View' host Whoopi Goldberg explains month-long absence: 'I'm not dead'
Where have you been, Whoopi Goldberg?
The co-host of The View appeared via a taped interview on Friday to explain why she’s been off the show since Feb. 5. The blame lies squarely on a bad case of pneumonia that infected both lungs and left her septic.
“I came very, very close to leaving the earth,” Goldberg said to the camera. “Good news, I didn’t.”
Goldberg said she is “up and moving around,” just “not as fast as I’d like to be.” She thanked her fans for the good tidings and mentioned how even her not-so-ardent fans were sharing good thoughts. “We all know that’s going to change when I get back for right now it’s brilliant.”
She wrapped up by saying her illness has been “interesting” and looked forward to sharing the details with her co-hosts. She did not indicate what day she will return to the morning talk show.
Goldberg became the moderator and co-host on The View in 2007, when she replaced Rosie O’Donnell.
