Admitting that he struggled for days to find the words, Jason Priestley on Thursday posted a heartfelt message to his former Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Luke Perry, who died Monday at the age of 52.

Priestley, who played Brandon Walsh to Perry’s Dylan McKay on the long-running Fox sudser, said his friend of 29 years was “an incredibly bright light that was extinguished far too soon.” He also referred to him as a “sweet prince.”

Perry died after suffering a severe stroke on Feb. 27.

On Wednesday, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced on Twitter that the show would dedicate the rest of season 3 to Perry, who played dad Fred Andrews on the CW series. Perry appeared briefly in Wednesday’s episode before the hour ended with an “In Memoriam” dedication to him.

Production on Riverdale was halted over the last two days following Perry’s death.

On Monday, 90210 costar Shannen Doherty told PEOPLE, “I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind.” Ian Ziering tweeted, “Dearest Luke, I will forever bask in the loving memories we’ve shared over the last thirty years. May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here, for those you leave behind.”
