The actress spoke while accepting the VH1 Trailblazer honor for 'Handmaid's' Tale' author Margaret Atwood
On March 8th (International Women’s Day, FYI), VH1 will air its Trailblazer Honors ceremony. The annual special “is centered around incredible breakthroughs in female empowerment and human rights.”
This year, honorees include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, filmmaker Ava Duvernay, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, and author Margaret Atwood.
Accepting the honor on behalf of Atwood at the February 20th ceremony was Samira Wiley, one of the actresses who stars in the television adaptation of Atwood’s novel The Handmaid’s Tale.
“When we started shooting The Handmaid’s Tale, they set up a dinner for Margaret, so we could all meet her,” Wiley recounted. “And I was like sitting next to her, real nervous. So then I saw Elisabeth Moss walked in and I was like, ‘Yo girl, switch seats with me!'”
Watch the full ceremony for the VHI Trailblazers Honors on Friday, March 8th at 9pm ET/PT on VH1 and LOGO.
