The hidden story is taking center stage.
Fittingly during the extravaganza of the Oscars, FX released a longer, juicier new teaser for their upcoming star-studded limited series Fosse/Verdon, which depicts the romantic and creative partnership between legendary director-choreographer Bob Fosse (Sam Rockwell) and actress Gwen Verdon (Michelle Williams). As a portrait of the man behind such musical classics as Cabaret, it’s about what you’d hope for: dizzying, melodramatic, and dazzling.
FX picked up Fosse/Verdon for an eight-episode run last year. The series is executive-produced by Tony-winning Hamilton alums Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail, and Steven Levenson, who wrote the Tony-winning book for the musical Dear Evan Hansen, serves as showrunner and writer of the premiere episode. Kail will direct the premiere episode, and Nicole Fosse, daughter of Fosse and Verdon, is on-hand as a co-executive producer.
Paul Reiser, Aya Cash, Evan Handler, Nick Corddry, Norbert Leo Butz, Margaret Qualley, and more are set to star opposite Rockwell and Williams.
Fosse/Verdon is based on Fosse, Sam Wasson’s critically acclaimed 2013 biography. Fosse (Rockwell), perhaps best known for helming Cabaret, was a visionary filmmaker and one of theater’s most influential choreographers and directors; Verdon (Williams) was the greatest Broadway dancer of all time. Together they changed the face of American entertainment — at a perilous cost. Per FX, the show will featuring Fosse’s original choreography and explore “the hidden corners of show business, the price of pursuing greatness, and the suffering inflicted in the name of art.”
Fosse/Verdon premieres April 9. Watch the trailer above.
