“Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth,” boxer Mike Tyson once opined. There’s something to that. I mean, I’ve never personally been punched in the mouth, but I imagine it may have a tendency to undo one’s confidence and strategic thinking.

But the incoming cast of Survivor: Edge of Extinction (which premieres Feb. 20 on CBS) hadn’t been punched yet when I sat down with them in Fiji the day before filming began. So many smiles! So much confidence! All soon to be replaced by scowls and stress.

As is my tradition when I go on location, I asked each of the contestants to tell me why they were going to win season 38 of Survivor. They all had a plan. Watch the video to see what it was. And then watch the season itself to see what happens when they get punched in the mouth…metaphorically speaking.
