‘Wine and beer!’ A few ideas to serve at your Rent live viewing party
It’s been more than two decades since Rent premiered on Broadway, becoming a smash hit on the stage and a bona fide cultural phenomenon. Now, fans can once again exert bragging rights over how much of the soundtrack they know by heart, as Jonathan Larson’s story of a group of misfits and artists in ‘90s-era New York City comes to the small screen this weekend for a live televised staging of the musical.
Many of you may be planning to watch the event unfold Sunday night on Fox. Perhaps you’re watching with friends and family — fellow Rent-heads, musical lovers, or anyone willing to risk getting “Seasons of Love” stuck in their head for the foreseeable future. And if you are turning it into a party, there should be snacks. Themed snacks.
If you’re searching for ideas for such a soiree, we’ve got you covered. Grab some candles, find some friends to light them, and raise a glass to these suggestions:
The Life Café/La Vie Boheme portion of the menu
Tofu dog platter
Pasta with meatless balls
Fries (and if we have to tell you how many orders, well…)
Rice and beans and cheese
Absolut, and of course, WINE AND BEER!

“Bananas by the bunch / a box of Cap’n Crunch would taste so good…”
Take Me or Leaf Me (salad)
The Mango Maureen (dried fruit)

Alphabet City soup
Popcorn with “Season(ing)s of Love”
