Charmed first look: Gina Rodriguez directs the power of three
Who’s ready for the power of four?
EW has an exclusive first look at Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez’s time spent on the set of her fellow CW show Charmed. Rodriguez took a brief break from Jane in order to direct the 11th episode of Charmed‘s freshman season. The two shows share a showrunner in Jennie Snyder Urman.
Additionally, Rodriguez was able to direct her Jane costar Jaime Camil, who guest stars in the episode as Mr. Miranda, the new music director of Hilltowne University’s a cappella group. Of course, this wasn’t Rodriguez’s first time directing Camil. The Jane star made her CW directorial debut during season 4 of Jane the Virgin. (She also directed the upcoming season 5 premiere of Jane.)
“When I was up in Vancouver directing Charmed, it was my first episode of television where I wasn’t acting in it,” Gina Rodriguez tells EW. “I have never felt more free, more artistically driven and exploding with ideas. I feel that way on Jane, but I also then have to jump in. As for Charmed, I just got to watch. And, I mean, those girls are tremendous. They’re love and light and dedication, and they’re hardworking and they just came prepared and ready to play, and they trusted me and we got to trust each other. And I’m so proud of our episode. And the fact that I got to play with [Jaime]…we got to bring Jane joy onto the Charmed set.”
Rodriguez’s episode of Charmed is set to air on Sunday, Jan. 27.
