Lena Waithe heads to Top Chef: Watch her challenge the cheftestants to make a Hot Brown
Lena Waithe is out of the Chi and into the kitchen.
The mastermind behind Showtime's The Chi and BET's new comedy Boomerang will serve as a guest judge on Thursday's episode of Top Chef — and EW has an exclusive preview clip of her appearance on the Bravo reality cooking competition.
"Being a guest judge for a Quickfire was a dream come true," Waithe tells EW. "I am obsessed with Top Chef. I never miss an episode and have seen every single season. It was definitely a full circle moment."
Waithe tasks the cheftestants with a quickfire challenge that will require them to put their own spin on a dish known as the Hot Brown. <iframe src="https://player.theplatform.com/p/HNK2IC/aO3boJhesuo7/select/media/guid/2140479951/3863936/feed/embed_feed?playAll=false&ec=f&fwsitesection=bravo_video_vod_embed&params=siteSectionId%3Dbravo_video_vod_embed&isEmbedded=true" width="688" height="387" frameborder="0" seamless="seamless" allowfullscreen="" class="" scrolling="no" resize="0" replace_attributes="1" name=""></iframe>
The Hot Brown is a staple in Kentucky — where season 16 of Top Chef takes place — and is essentially an open-faced turkey sandwich smothered in Mornay sauce.
Both Justin and Sara have versions of a Hot Brown on the menus at their respective restaurants, and both head into the challenge thinking it's theirs to lose. (BTW, to see every dish Justin, Sara, and the other cheftestants have made on season 16, check out EW's Top Chef food porn gallery.)
Top Chef airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.
