TBS cancels People of Earth after renewing it
TBS has changed its mind about People of Earth.
Nine months after renewing the alien abduction comedy, the network canceled it, according to creator David Jenkins. “Just got word last night: TBS has cancelled People of Earth,” he tweeted. “Thank you to everyone who was a fan of the show and enjoyed its gentle, amiable sci-fi weirdness. It was an honor sharing this show with you. Let’s do it again soon. Love you all.” Jenkins noted in a reply to a fan that season 3 will not be shot even though it has already been written.
The well-reviewed comedy, which counted Conan O’Brien and Greg Daniels among its executive producers, starred Wyatt Cenac as a journalist who investigates an alien abductee support group. Ana Gasteyer, Oscar Nunez, Brian Huskey, Michael Cassidy, Tracee Chimo, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph were also part of the cast. TBS renewed the show for a third season last September, just a few weeks before the season 2 finale aired.
Cenac remains busy with the HBO series Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas, which received a second-season renewal a few weeks ago.
TBS reps did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
