For the winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the challenge is just beginning.

It’s customary for Jimmy Kimmel to challenge the year’s wordsmith champion to his own “Jimmy Kimmel Live Spelling Bee,” and there’s one reason this is always much more challenging than the traditional Spelling Bee. Guillermo, Kimmel’s late-night show sidekick, gets dressed up in a bumblebee costume and purposefully mispronounces words.

Kimmel got tripped up by this and never recovered, but 14-year-old Karthik Nemmani quickly understood what the real words were. For example, “ren-des-bos-ay” is “rendezvous” and “soob-tlay” is “subtle.” Once you figure out the pattern, you’re gold.
