Sara Ramirez says she won't appear in Jessica Capshaw's final Grey's Anatomy episode
In case you were hoping that Sara Ramirez would reprise her role as Callie in Thursday night’s finale of Grey’s Anatomy, your prayers will not be answered. The actress who is now a regular on the CBS drama Madam Secretary responded to a fan via Twitter by revealing she will not return to help Jessica Capshaw — a.k.a. Arizona, Callie’s ex — make a graceful exit from the show.
Ramirez left Grey’s Anatomy in 2016.
In March, it was revealed that Capshaw and Sarah Drew would leave at the end of this season. Capshaw joined the show as Arizona Robbins in season 5 while Drew came aboard a year later as April Kepner. At the time, Grey’s creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes said “It’s always hard for me to say goodbye to any of my character. Both Arizona Robbins and April Kepner are not only beloved but iconic — both the LBGTQ and devout Christian communities are underrepresented on TV. I will be forever grateful to both Jessica and Sarah for bringing these characters to life with such vibrant performance and for inspiring women around the globe. They will always be a part of our Shondaland family.”
The Grey’s Anatomy finale will air Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
