You can believe all you want. But Fox has no plans to make any more of The X-Files.
The network just put out its 2018-19 schedule without a mention of the on-again, off-again sci-fi drama.
When asked if there is any intention of making more X-Files episodes, Fox Television CEO and chairman Gary Newman declared to reporters, “There are no plans to do another season at the moment.”
X-Files returned for its 11th season earlier this year, but its ratings weren’t so hot and star Gillian Anderson has declared she’s finished with the show.
That said, Fox does have new versions of Prison Break and 24 in the works, albeit in early stages.
“We are developing around the 24 franchise, which frankly we have almost since the show went off the air,” fellow Fox Television CEO and chairman Dana Walden said. “[Producer] Howard Gordon is working with a team of writers. They’re working on one idea we’re pretty excited about.”
Fox attempted to revive 24 last year with 24: Legacy starring Corey Hawkins, but the show didn’t catch on with viewers. Original 24 series star Kiefer Sutherland’s ABC drama Designated Survivor was canceled last week, so if Fox decided to revive the series the actor would presumably be available again.
“For Prison Break, it’s in the early stages of development, and we’re just focusing on getting the next iteration night,” Walden added. “Don’t anticipate there would be any kind of significant announcements for months.”
Fox made the statements while revealing its new fall schedule.
