Jimmy Kimmel brought back a Mother’s Day segment from last year, only instead of having his staff read funny text messages from their moms, he asked celebrities like Kristen Bell and Arrested Development‘s Tony Hale to do it.

Bell’s mom, apparently, is all about getting the inside scoop from to win her Oscars party. “Hey Kristen, I know that you know Jimmy Kimmel, and he’s doing the Oscars. So tell him to give you all the winners, so you can give me the winners, and I can win at my Oscar party,” Bell read. It doesn’t really work like that, but good effort.

As for Hale’s mother, she gives a blunt review of his work. “Hey son, our new friends are LOVING Arrested Development. We still don’t get it,” he read.

Other celebs who read texts from mom were Big Little Lies‘ Adam Scott, rapper YG, Overboard‘s Anna Faris, Last Man on Earth‘s Will Forte (side bar, R.I.P. Last Man on Earth), and Black-ish‘s Anthony Anderson.

“Simon Helberg. Holy S–! Brilliant work in Florence Foster Jenkins. Is it OK for a grandma to lust?” read a text from Scott’s mom. “Sure, just you truly do not need to text me about it,” he said.
