After the events of season 2, the synths of AMC’s Humans are finally conscious — and they’re ready to rebel.

In the exclusive trailer for the third season of the British drama about a society in which artificially intelligent robotic synths (short for “synthetics”) exist, the synths have lost more in their battle for freedom than humans have, and they’re ready to finally put themselves first, with Mia (Gemma Chan, next seen in Crazy Rich Asians and Captain Marvel) possibly leading the charge. “The bomb changed everything,” Max (Ivanno Jeremiah) warns his fellow synths. “There’s conflict coming.”

But if the conscious synth family just added millions more to their number, the Hawkinses, too — or at least Laura (Katherine Parkinson) — are about to add one more to theirs, in the form of a synth called a “Stanley” that’s evidently super-strong and unaware of the robotic revolution. Clearly, the fight for freedom and understanding between humans and synths won’t be easy; even the official key art for season 3 below shows how everyone’s a target, not just the synths.
