'Sarah Huckabee Sanders called me and said, "I loved it so much I got every joke."'
Michelle Wolf has made her first major television appearance following the polarizing hosting turn at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The former Late Night contributor returned to her old stomping grounds Wednesday to talk with Seth Meyers about her new Netflix show and poke fun at all that criticism she received .
“It went great and every single person loved it — across the board!” Wolf joked. “Everyone loved it. Sarah Huckabee Sanders called me and said, ‘I loved it so much, I got every joke.'”
After Wolf delivered her monologue at the WHCD, she was slammed for jokes that some thought criticized Sanders’ appearance. “I actually really like Sarah,” Wolf said during the night. “I think she’s very resourceful. [She] burns facts, and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye. Like, maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s lies.”
“I was watching and there were a few that seemed like [Sanders] maybe didn’t like or get,” Meyers responded to Wolf on Late Night.
“Well, you know, you give the best information you have at the time,” she said.
Meyers was one of the comedians who came to Wolf’s defense following the WHCD. He slammed the White House Critics’ Association for denouncing Wolf’s performance when they were the ones who “hired her” in the first place. “Michelle Wolf has a new show premiering on Netflix May 27. It’s called The Break and based on what happened Saturday, you can be sure that it will be great because she’s not gonna waste any time trying to decide when it is or isn’t proper to make fun of people in power who lie to us on a daily basis,” he had said.
As Wolf remarked to Meyers, “If you hated the Correspondents’ Dinner, you’re really gonna hate this show.”
