What information does Rose have? That’s the cliffhanger that ended Jane the Virgin‘s penultimate episode and will lead us directly into its season 4 finale. And for a show that loves a good twist, season finales are unpredictable to say the least.
“We like our big finales on Jane and we like to build toward them for the whole season, so there’s a few big shockers at the end,” showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman tells EW. And while Urman adds that “no one will take their face off,” she does promise that after taking a bit of a break from the drama with last year’s finale — Michael’s mid-season death was more than enough drama for the entire year — this hour will be a return to form. “This year’s finale is a big one,” she says.
And with a big finale comes a big event … or two. This time around, Urman has already revealed that there will be what she calls “a surprise wedding” before season’s end. And then, of course, there’s Alba’s citizenship ceremony, which will be the focal point for the hour. “As always we like to celebrate big life moments, and in the finale, Alba will become a citizen,” Urman says. “That’s the big family celebration and of course a lot of things happen from that.”
Considering the promos see Jane talking about a proposal, there’s some speculation around whether Jane and Rafael could be the surprise wedding. All Urman will say is that, “They are on solid ground. They continue to grow closer and their relationship continues to evolve and move forward.”
And then there’s the question of the mystery person who was introduced into the story a few episodes back and whose identity is yet to be revealed. “You’re going to start to realize who it is,” Urman says. “But all of the pieces will not come together until the finale.” Altogether, Urman promises a closer that has all of the things that Jane has become known for: “It has romance, comedy, drama, and some shocking twists!” Like any good telenovela should.
Jane the Virgin airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
