Former Sex and the City star and future Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon said she supports legalizing marijuana in her first national television appearance, which occured on Wednesday’s episode of The Wendy Williams Show.

“I’m absolutely for the legalization of marijuana,” Nixon said. “Let’s capture some of that revenue.”

The Emmy award actress announced her run for the New York governor’s seat back in January, planning to go up against current Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic Primary. “People talk a lot to me about being a celebrity entering this race,” Nixon told Williams. “I have to say, when Andrew Cuomo ran eight years ago, he was a celebrity because he was the son of Mario Cuomo.”

When Williams questioned why the actress would want to take on politics, Nixon’s answer showed her city pride. “I love New York and I believe so much in New York,” said the NYC native, going on to add that funding for the city’s public schools would be a top priority for her as governor. “If you want it done you actually have to get in there yourself,” she said.

In addition to her love for New York, Nixon pointed to the election of President Donald Trump as motivation to run, calling it “a real wake-up call” for her as well as women across the country. “I think that we’re at a real watershed moment now,” she added in reference to stricter gun control and March for Our Lives which she attended with her youngest daughter. “We can really make change. There is such an appetite for real progressive change in New York City.”
