The Donald Trump cartoon show will continue.
The one on Showtime, that is. The network announced on Thursday that it had ordered seven more episodes of Our Cartoon President.
The animated series, which includes Stephen Colbert among its executive producers, will finish its 10-episode run on April 8 before returning this summer with the second part of the first season.
Our Cartoon President — which premiered last month and is averaging 2 million viewers per episode — brings viewers inside the White House and pokes fun at the “true-ish misadventures” of President Trump, his family members, and advisers. The show occasionally plucks dialogue from real-life interviews with Trump and his advisers, and Colbert believes that Our Cartoon President is not normalizing this controversy-soaked POTUS. “I don’t think there’s anything normal about his behavior as a cartoon,” Colbert recently told reporters at the TCA Winter Press Tour in Pasadena. “The subjects we’re picking are dark enough that reflect the stakes of truly cartoonish behavior in the actual 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.”
