ABC’s hit freshman medical drama will be back for another season!
The Good Doctor has been renewed for a second season, the network announced Wednesday.
Executive produced by David Shore (House) and Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-O), the series follows Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, as he begins his residency at a prestigious hospital in San Jose. The Good Doctor was one of the breakout shows of the current television season and is ABC’s most-watched freshman series in 13 years. At one point last fall, it was the most-watched drama on television, and Highmore’s performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
“The Good Doctor’s message of inclusiveness resonates with our viewers and is a hallmark of what we aim to accomplish here at ABC,” said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey in a press statement. “This series has quickly joined the zeitgeist and broken records in the competitive television landscape. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Shaun Murphy will be back for another season.”
The series also stars Richard Schiff, Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chuku Modu, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper, and Tamlyn Tomita. It’s executive produced by David Kim, Sebastian Lee, and director Seth Gordon.
The Good Doctor airs Mondays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
