Hosting Survivor is hard. Like, really hard. I always marvel and am very impressed by the job Jeff Probst does navigating the tricky waters out there — and I mean that somewhat literally, like the time he had to call a challenge while being knocked back by a giant wave. Probst does this all in the elements and in the moment. Unlike other hosts, he does not have an earpiece feeding him lines to say as he goes. He is out there by himself, on his little hosting Exile Island, if you will.
Probst does a remarkable job hosting Survivor. But there is something he is far less remarkable at — predicting Survivor winners. This became clear during last year’s Game Changers season when he selected Ciera Eastin before the game as his pick to win it all. She was voted out first.
Now, I am not one to talk. I have not correctly predicted a winner in over 20 seasons. It’s quite pathetic actually. So who will break their unlucky streak of futility first? I gave the Hostmaster General the first shot at redemption and asked him to make his official pick back on day 1 of the game. (Mine will be revealed in my premiere recap.) So who did Probst pick right as the game was starting? Watch the video above to find out, and then tune into the Survivor: Ghost Island premiere tonight at 8 p.m. on CBS to see if his selection goes home first again.
You can also watch the first few minutes of the premiere right here. Make sure to check out our Survivor hub for anything else you may have missed, and for non-stop coverage, follow me on Twitter @DaltonRoss.
