Stephen Colbert doubts Trump would — or could — 'run in there' towards a school shooter
“You don’t know until you test it, but I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon,” Trump told a room full of U.S. governors after a shooter opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, killing 17 people and injuring 14 others.
“There’s a lot in there that I doubt, but the part I really don’t believe is that he can run,” Colbert said on The Late Show Monday night. “Look, sir, we already know how you react to combat situations,” he added. “You got five deferments from Vietnam. What are you gonna do? Run in there and stab ’em with your bone spurs?”
Colbert seemed more disappointed that the “fantasy world” he believes Trump is living in isn’t more interesting. Mimicking Trump’s voice, he went on a tangent: “Even if I had a gun, I would’ve dropped it just to show how tough I was. Then I would’ve run in and hit the shooter with my laser beam eyes, then use my mind like Neo in The Matrix and fly away to space Mar-a-Lago — Space-a-Lago.”
