The Middle writers complete the sitcom's final script (Cue: tears)
The Middle has written its last words.
In a bittersweet post on social media, co-creator DeAnn Heline posted a picture of the comedy’s last script in preparation for its series finale.
“So… we finished breaking the very last episode of #TheMiddle today,” she wrote. “Overwhelmed with emotion. I can’t wait for you all to see it.”
The image highlights the words, “END OF SHOW, END OF SEASON, END OF SERIES.”
In October, Heline said she has witnessed a “very moving and overwhelming” reaction to the August announcement about the series ending, which briefly made her wonder whether they should stay put on ABC a little longer. The family-com she created with Eileen Heisler — which stars Patricia Heaton and Neil Flynn — debuted in 2009.
“I’m not going to lie, there’s a part of you that goes, ‘Well, maybe we should stick around,’” Heline said.
ABC ordered two additional episodes of the sitcom’s final season, bringing the total episode count to 24.
The Middle airs Tuesdays on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
