Olympic commentators Tara Lipinski, Johnny Weir to host Closing Ceremony for NBC
Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir made such a lasting impression as NBC commentators for the 2018 Winter Olympics that they’ve been selected to host the Closing Ceremony.
The former figure skaters made the announcement during a broadcast on Wednesday night with their cohort Terry Gannon, who will also be on hand for Sunday’s event at the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium in South Korea.
“It’s such an honor,” Weir said during the broadcast.
“And a privilege,” Lipinski added.
“Parades, K-pop, fireworks, costumes, dancing — who better to host the world’s biggest party than Tara, Johnny and Terry?” Jim Bell, NBC’s president of Olympics production and programming, said in a press release.
Lipinski and Weir stole hearts off the ice with their efforts bedazzling Saturday Night Live cast member Leslie Jones and dancing to K-pop.
“I’m honored and excited to be hosting the Closing Ceremony with my reserved, understated broadcast partners, Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir,” Gannon joked of his obviously outgoing colleagues.
