CBS' Magnum, P.I. reboot to star Jay Hernandez
How does Jay Hernandez look in a mustache and Tigers hat?
You may find out soon, as CBS has cast the Bad Moms alum to star in the reboot of Tom Selleck’s Magnum P.I.
Like the original 1980s crime drama, the pilot is set in Hawaii with Hernandez assuming the role of Thomas Magnum. In this incarnation, he’s a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who returns home from Afghanistan (instead of Vietnam) and uses his military skills as a private investigator. Hernandez’s TV credits include Six Degrees, Gang Related, and Nashville, and he had a recurring role earlier this season on Scandal. His feature film resume boasts Hostel, Suicide Squad and Bright.
Peter Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim (Hawaii Five-0) are writing and executive producing the pilot, while Justin Lin (The Fast and The Furious) is directing.
CBS is looking to the past for inspiration for the 2018-19 season, ordering a pilot update of ’80s crime drama Cagney & Lacey, as well as a straight-to-series order for ’90s comedy Murphy Brown.
