Big Little Lies: Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz confirmed to return
It’s official: All the ladies of Monterey will be back.
Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, and Laura Dern are set to reunite with Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon for the next installment of Big Little Lies, HBO announced Friday. Meryl Streep was previously cast as Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Perry (Alexander Skarsgård).
Based on a story from author Liane Moriarty, David E. Kelley will write all seven episodes, while Andrea Arnold takes over the directing duties from Jean-Marc Vallée for season 2, which HBO says “will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode… the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
Dern won an Emmy and Golden Globe for her role as Renata, who will be faced with new challenges in her marriage to Gordon (Jeffrey Nordling). Meanwhile, Perry’s death leaves Jane (Emmy and Golden Globe-nominee Woodley) trying to build a new life for herself and her son, as Bonnie (Kravitz) struggles with her role in the incident and faces demons from her past.
Big Little Lies is expected to return in 2019.
