It’s been two years, but Atlanta is finally back! FX has released the official trailer for the second season of Donald Glover’s critically acclaimed and award-winning comedy.
Starring and executive produced by Glover, Atlanta follows penniless Princeton drop-out Earn (Glover) as he tries to help his rapper cousin Alfred, a.k.a. Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) make it in the Georgia capital’s rap scene. Lakeith Stanfield also stars as their spacey best friend Darius. For its new season, the series rebranded as Atlanta Robbin’ Season because season 2 takes place during the period of time before Christmas when crime rises in Atlanta. Given this dangerous time of the year, Van (Zazie Beetz), the mother of Earn’s daughter, is only half-joking when she tells him his money making is going to get them robbed in the trailer.
Elsewhere in the promo, we also see that Alfred is still hustling, too — both as a rapper and as a drug dealer.

In January, Donald Glover and his brother Stephen, who is an executive producer on the series, explained that the new season was inspired by, of all things, the Tiny Toon Adventures film “How I Spent My Vacation,” which was a direct-to-video film that was aired as four separate episodes.
“The episodes were broken up in eight or nine episodes, but you watched them all together and they were a movie and they would play them during the summer together or in installments,” said Stephen Glover as the Television Critics Association’ press tour in January. “We took that idea of a whole story, but being told in a bunch of little parts that will be shown that maybe seem like they’re their own thing, but they all are one thing.”
Donald Glover added: “You enjoy them more when they’re together, but you can also enjoy them in little bits.”
The show’s first season was showered with awards in 2017. Glover won the Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, and took home the Golden Globe for best comedy actor, too. The series itself also won the Golden Globe for best comedy series, too.
Atlanta returns March 1 on FX.
