Kate McKinnon’s impression of Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been endorsed by the Supreme Court Justice herself.
Speaking with NPR’s Nina Totenberg in Park City, Utah, to promote RBG, the new documentary on her life, Ginsburg was asked to weigh in on McKinnon’s take on her in SNL, as a morally-minded judge with a penchant for throwing out cutting “Gins-Burns.” According to Totenberg, Ginsburg was shown the impression by the documentary’s crew, and that her children indicated that Ginsburg had never seen it before.
“I liked the actress who portrayed me,” Ginsburg gushed. “And I would like to say Gins-Burn! sometimes to my colleagues.”
The audience, unsurprisingly, howled in approval and laughter. (Watch all of McKinnon’s Ginsberg sketches here.)
RBG, directed by Julie Cohen and Betsy West, premiered to strong reviews this past weekend at the Sundance Film Festival. Watch RBG give her seal of approval above.
