Black Lightning unveils first look at Thunder
- TV Show
Crime-fighting is a family business on Black Lightning.
The CW has released a first look at Nafeesa Williams, who plays the titular hero’s (Cress Williams) eldest daughter Anissa, as her crime fighting alter-ego Thunder. As we’ll learn when the series premieres, Anissa is a metahuman just like her father.

Executive-produced by uber producer Greg Berlanti, this new superhero show follows Jefferson Pierce (Williams), a retired electricity-powered superhero who spends his days working as principal of a charter school. However, he gets drawn back into the tights-wearing game when his daughters get targeted by the local 100 gang.
EP Salim Akil previously told EW that Jefferson won’t be pleased when he finds out about his daughters’ powers. “It’s hard for any parent to see their children grow out of the nest,” said Akil. “That’s how Jefferson will react to seeing his daughters get their powers. In a way, he’ll be a little fearful, because he understands what having powers is and what it means. The same way when parents see their children go off into the world without them, they’re a little fearful because they understand what the world has in store for them. But you can’t stop that. You have to let them grow.”
Black Lightning premieres Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 9 p.m. (after The Flash) on The CW.
