'Dave Chappelle: The Bird Revelation' joins a previously announced special on Netflix on Dec. 31
Surprise! Dave Chappelle has not one, but two stand-up specials for you to ring in the New Year with.
The comedian previously announced that Dave Chappelle: Equanimity would hit Netflix on Dec. 31, but now the streaming service has confirmed that a second special, Dave Chappelle: The Bird Revelation, will also launch that same day.
Chappelle made Netflix the place to go for groundbreaking stand-up earlier this year with the release of two specials on the streaming platform, The Age of Spin: Dave Chappelle Live at the Hollywood Palladium and Deep in the Heart of Texas: Dave Chappelle Live at Austin City Limits. Both specials became part of the popular “Netflix is a joke” marketing campaign.
Comedy Central will ring in the new year with a Chappelle’s Show marathon, which ran on the network from 2003-2006. Dubbed “It’s a Celebration, Bitches,” all 28 episodes will run nonstop, starting at 9 a.m. ET/PT, all leading up to a midnight airing of his stand-up special Killin’ Them Softly.
While the previously announced Equanimity marks a homecoming performance at the Warner Theater in Washington D.C., the new special The Bird Revelation was shot very recently at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles on Nov. 20.
This will cap a banner year for the comedian — the previous specials marked his first concert specials in 12 years and they rocketed to success, while he also won an Emmy in September for Outstanding Guest Actor for his work hosting a 2016 episode of Saturday Night Live.
