Hey now: the Golden Globes aren’t just about who’s excellent in film.

Though the annual fete helps to kick off Oscar season, the three-hour ceremony at the Beverly Hilton also gives the TV world a chance to earn some much-wanted love and affection from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It’s a particularly nice place for the underdogs (like the Tatiana Maslanys of the world) to get some rare attaboys before Emmy finally takes notice.
