"Cabinet battle, cabinet battle, cabinet battle!"
If you don’t live near a major city (or have a few thousand dollars to spare), chances are you haven’t gotten a chance to see Hamilton. And even if you have seen Hamilton, there’s a chance you weren’t lucky enough to see the show’s creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, in the title role (not that it’s a big deal — even the Obamas saw the also-great Javier Muñoz).
But for those of you who will never be satisfied by just listening to the original cast recording on repeat, Ellen DeGeneres brought an early holiday present in the form of Lin-Manuel Miranda talking through the entire plot of Hamilton in under three minutes for Ellen’s YouTube Show Me More Show.
With the help of DeGeneres’ 7-year-old presidential expert Macey Hensley (who interjects helpful fun facts, like how Thomas Jefferson owned two grizzly bears), Miranda whips through the first Treasury Secretary’s life as told on Broadway: bad childhood, war, romance, death, etc.
Check out the video above, and if you’re looking for a more in-depth biography of the ten-dollar founding father without a father, Miranda based his rap-musical on the 800+-page biography written by Ron Chernow.
