Maroon 5 surprises New York commuters with undercover busking performance
Following in the footsteps of Miley Cyrus, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and lead guitar James Valentine joined Jimmy Fallon undercover to busk in the New York City subway.
Looking like a bunch of hipsters straight out of Williamsburg with fake hair, fake beards, hats, and sunglasses, Levine and his troupe started in with “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” Subway riders traveling through the Rockefeller Center platform in Manhattan stopped to watch The Voice coach’s singing Elvis impression — without yet knowing they were listening to The Voice coach.
Once a sizable crowd amassed, Levine and Fallon revealed themselves as more bodies rushed towards them and more smartphones whipped out to record. The band then performed a rendition of their 2014 hit song “Sugar,” complete with bucket drums.
