Grown-ish, Freeform’s highly anticipated spin-off of the ABC sitcom black-ish, isn’t set to premiere until the new year rings in, but the ensemble has come together for an homage that should make the wait a little more worthwhile.

In a new video posted by the network, Yara Shahidi and the cast of the new comedy series, which traces Zoey’s first year at college as she encounters new people and ideas, sit at their desks, bored, and begin to whistle. It quickly becomes clear that these students are recreating one of the many beloved scenes from The Breakfast Club, which itself was an appropriation on a march composition from the film The Bridge on the River Kwai. Cue the pencil-tapping.

It’s a pretty accurate homage, if a little lengthier and with room for some improvisation. Check out the original Breakfast Club scene below to see for yourself.

The video was choreographed and arranged by Derek Watkins, aka Fonzworth Bentley.

Grown-ish premieres on Freeform as a special one-hour event on Jan. 3, 2018, at 8 p.m. ET.
