Bill Maher slams Republican defense of Roy Moore: 'We arrest our alleged rapists, they elect them'
Bill Maher obliterated the Republicans defense of Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore on Friday’s Real Time, or as he deemed it, “another edition of, ‘Who pulled their dick out this week?'”
The host opened the episode by addressing the allegations against Moore, who has been accused of pursuing relationships with girls as young as 14 when he was in his 30s. Admitting he “dated a lot of young ladies,” the 70-year-old has denied the accusations.
Many Republicans have come to Moore’s defense, whether it was Sean Hannity seeming to call the relationship between Moore and a 14-year-old “consensual” or Alabama state auditor Jim Ziegler going biblical with a reference to the age difference of Mary and Joseph (“They became parents of Jesus”).
“Using Jesus to justify child molestation? Even the Catholics went, ‘Tried it, doesn’t work.'” quipped Maher. “To my recollection, slight difference, Joseph and Mary didn’t f—. Isn’t that the whole point of that story?”
Then, Maher concluded by comparing the response of liberals to sexual misconduct accusations to that of Republicans. “No liberal defended Harvey Weinstein or Kevin Spacey, who might be going to jail. Anthony Weiner is in jail. Louis C.K. we hear this week did horrific things,” he said. “Compare that to Trump and Roy Moore. We arrest our alleged rapists, they elect them.”
