Grey's Anatomy music supervisor picks her favorite songs from the show
The music of Grey's Anatomy is iconic. Over the course of the show's 12-year run, the show has featured a meticulous and thoughtful soundtrack that has supported some of the show's most memorable moments — from Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars" playing as the characters and audience said goodbye to Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in season 2, to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) dancing it out to Tegan and Sara one last time before Oh left the show. So, it makes sense that we should look back on the show's impeccable music taste as it reaches a huge milestone.
In honor of the ABC medical drama's 300th episode, which airs Thursday, music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas put together a Spotify playlist comprised of her two favorite songs from each season (minus the 14th, which is currently airing). The playlist includes many obvious picks: the aforementioned "Chasing Cars," Anne Nalick's "Breathe (2AM)," Tegan and Sara's "Where Does the Good Go," Kanye West's "Street Lights," and many more.
"It really is hard to put into words how much Grey's Anatomy and the music on the show has meant to me over the last few years," wrote Patsavas in a post on the Shondaland website, adding that they've always wanted the music to be its own character since the beginning. "This character would have a place in both the operating room and the break room. It would be there in elevators, bars, and homes. And, of course, it would be there for all THE BIG STUFF — for weddings and funerals, for births and deaths, for the grittiest moments and the most light-hearted."
She continued: "Shonda wanted the songs to tie scenes together, and to act as a score. She didn't just want short bursts of sound: She wanted music with purpose. This directive gave me an opportunity to look under every musical rock and stretch my choices into both the emotional and the sassy."

Meredith. Alex. Bailey. The doctors are definitely in on Shonda Rhimes' hospital melodrama.
